Aidpage group discussing "college grants"...

no need to purchase CD's

1.go to grant.gov

2.Find which federal agency is eligible for a grant that you are interested in.

3. go to that website

4. see how the grants r filtered through Fed/State/Count/City after all the employees are paid it doesn't leave much

Hard Working College Student Needing Help

I'm a college student and living with a friend... and to put everything simple, I need help with my financial needs. I can't turn to my parents because they are barely making ends meet with my mothers income, and the school I am currently attending is screwing me over with the financial aid money I am suppose to be receiving through out the year. My biggest concern is paying rent, and my needs for school which have not been met because of the situation with the financial aid. I was suppose to be receiving 15,000 dollars for the year... or well that's what the financial aid page for the school said. They then dropped it to less than a third after the long and strainuous paper process (which could have been a lot easier if they would have told me what they needed in the first place and not wait it out until they decide they needed it later on...) They then proceeded to tell me that I will only be receiving a third of the fall semesters amount because I only took one class (I had to pay out of pocket because of the Financial Aid incident this year.) I am not going into my spring semester, and with only 478 dollars from the financial aid I have no way of paying my rent, getting a car, or even paying for books. I've been relying on my best friend/roommate this semester and I can't be doing that any more.

When it comes to a job - it's either the companies aren't looking for new employee's or I don't meet the qualifications for the job.

Whats going on:

* Rent - 200 (monthly) (I am three months behind in rent, and 800 dollars in debt to my friends mother...)

* Internet/land line - 65 (monthly)

* No Car

* Receiving Medical and Food Stamps through social services (The medical is only until I turn 21, and the food stamps can be cut off at any moment because of not having a job - yeah I know, it's a stupid system)

* Books - est. 450 for spring semester this is not including the art supplies and the fee's the bog didn't cover.

Why I'm writing this...

I need some type of financial assistance or advice where I can go to receive help with what is going on. I've already went to EOPS through the school and they haven't gotten back to me yet, and a Stafford loan for the 2008/2009 year is to late. The Financial Aid office refused to process it this time around, and when it comes to scholarships, they are now processing for the 2009/2010 school year... not 2008/2009. Social Services isn't giving me any more help than what I have received from them...

So if any one knows where I can get assistance with my situation, then please contact me I will gladly appreciate it.

Aidpage group discussing "college grants"...

Feel free to participate in this public group space.

Two easy ways to do this:

  1. Add a comment or a question here - on this page... or on any other page in this space.
  2. Or, if you want to start a separate thread - make a new page.

Either way is good - the important thing is your participation. On Aidpage, people support each other by speaking out and by paying attention to each other - as simple as that.

Timothy Tart

Timothy Tart/Education

Greetings!

My name is Timothy Tart. I currently live in Oklahoma. I am seeking much assistance in my education. I am currently majored in Computer Science/ Applied Technology at Rogers State University.  I am transferring to the University of Phoenix to advance my studies with rapidity. In 2004, I suffered the loss of my mother, which caused me to relocate into my uncles' home. Later in 2004, information was discovered that my mother's youngest sister stole my sister's portion of the life insurance money, which causes a major rift in the family. In 2005, when in an attempt to collect the money for my sister, my grandfather almost killed us. I have lived a difficult life, and I am still determined to go for my goals. I made a promise on the deathbed of my mother in 2004, that I will obtain a Doctorate. I intend to keep that promise not only to my mother, but to myself. In just two years, I managed to lose a loved one, relocate two times, and almost die. I honestly believe that God has spared my life and I intend to keep praising God, and continue with my education. This letter's purpose is to seek help in any way to further my education. I know that whoever reads this letter takes a chance on an African American young man in Oklahoma, and help him in any way possible. I look forward to graduate with my bachelors, masters and finally my doctorate. I do appreciate you for taking the time to read this letter, and I hope that you have a blessed day.

Sincerely,

T. Timothy Tart

I would like to get government grants available for myself and family

I am a single parent with two childeren, one of which is about to attend a Historical Black College, Grambling.  I don't have the finances available to send him without assistance.  I have a work-related injury that has taken me out of the employment area and I am stuck until I am able to get additional assistance, but until then,  I heard that there are Government Grants available for many of my needs, but I have not been able to locate them or even get the assistance to help my son in his reach for  responsible adulthood.

I have several long stories for my situation, but I would like to concentrate on my son and possibly a way to get out of my situation.

My son was a good student with misdirection from his coaches and the lack of counseling from those that were capable of aiding him while he attended high school.  His grade point average dropped from a 3.0 or better to 2.0.  I encouraged him to bring his grades back up and keep trying after having difficulty with some teachers and classes.  He played football, baseball and track and field.  He made it to the State Championship and placed 5th in California, however before getting there he had been struggling in his Economics Class and asked for help from a teacher who seemingly had a grudge against atheletes, based on comments made in his classroom to his students.  He had been asked for assistance for my son during his struggles in this class, 3 months prior to graduation.  The teacher agreed to assist his and keep in contact with me as well.  He didn't and my son complained that he wasn't doing well still.  The teacher knew that my son had already been accepted to Grambling Unv. and had a scholarship as well.  He also knew that my son had been doing well in track, and expected to go to the California State Championship Meet.   To find out less than a week, roughly 3 days before graduation that he wouldn't be passing this class which would also keep him from graduating was devestating.

I had to hold onto everything I could to keep from falling apart before my son, who I know really worked hard to get to this point and still had to be strong for his teammates who half would be graduating with him and the other two the following year.  I told him that I would do everything I could to get help in this selfish prank by his teacher who didn't allow any make up assignments, no extra credit, nor any additional work to aid him from where he was nor called me to inform me that his status had changed from being one that he would help to one that he would try to distroy.

I am trying to get funds to assist my son to go to Grambling this fall and the future semesters on a Pell Grant and a loan and what ever I can come up with.  I have been hit financially due to a bankruptcy from not being able to recover from a work injury sustained on 9/11/01 where I ruptured several neck discs and shoulder and abdominal hernia from a patient lifting injury.  I have had several surgeries with the promise from my doctors to be able to return, but I haven't still been cleared to go back to work in my field, but a form of light duty with the doctor's restrictions keeping me from actually doing any form of my job, but still being employable.  I can't work outside in the registry nor any additional modality because of the vagueness of the doctors restrictions not disability.  So, I am paying and have had to pay bills that were extended due to promise to sooner return, but not.

My son is now paying in another way, I just want to get chance to get the information for starting a business, buying a home and of course paying my childrens' way through school.

AidPage is a great idea! I have always wanted to donate some of my spare time to help people in need, right here from my office. And here I found AidPage where I can hopefully use my research skills to help some of the people seeking financial and other help with valuable information resources. Besides, I am curious to find out what really is available out there from the governments and private sources that may match some of the needs posted here on AidPage.

I would greatly appreciate any feedback. Thanks.
